Executive Staff

A. Rebecca Crowell

Executive Director

Ms. Crowell became the Executive Director of Nexus in 1991. Prior to that she worked as the program director of Nexus' Women and Children's Program. She has a Master of Education Degree in Counseling, is a Licensed Professional Counselor, and isa Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. Ms. Crowell worked for six years as an administrator of a women's health care clinic, two years managing a psychiatric unit and has more than fifteen years experience as both a counselor and administrator of chemical dependency programs.

William J. von Hagel

Chief Financial Officer

Mr. von Hagel has been with Nexus since 1996. He has extensive domestic and international business experience including more than 25 years of audit and financial project management in Fortune 200 companies. He also has conducted business throughout North America, Europe, Latin America and the Pacific Rim. Mr. von Hagel received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Loyola College in Maryland.

Stacey Burns

Clinical Director

Ms. Burns joined Nexus in 1993. She has more than 17 years of experience in the field of chemical dependency. She has a background in both counseling and administration. Ms. Burns has a Master's Degree in Social Work and is a Licensed Master Social Worker as well as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. Before coming to Nexus, she worked at Parkland Memorial Hospital for five years as a social worker in the neo-natal ICU and in a perinatal intervention program for pregnant addicts.

C. Eliot deGravelles, M.D.

Medical Director

Dr. deGravelles is a psychiatrist with a background in community psychiatry and women's mental health issues. He has extensive experience in working with individuals with addictive and psychiatric disorders through Parkland Hospital. Dr. deGravelles is currently an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at UT Southwestern and serves in a shared position with Nexus and the medical school.

Cindy Seamans

Adult Women Program Director and Research Coordinator

Dr. Seamans joined the Nexus team in June 2008. A Licensed Psychologist and Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, Cindy earned her Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Texas Woman's University. Prior to joining Nexus, Cindy worked as Supervisor for Counseling Services for Dallas County adult probation, and spent seven years as a counselor and supervisor for domestic violence agencies including serving as Clinical Coordinator of the Family Place women's shelter.

Jim A Lindsey

Pregnant/Parenting Women with Children's Program Director

Mr. Lindsey joined Nexus after moving to Dallas from Oklahoma City where he was the clinical director for Mid-Del Youth and Family Service Agency. He has a Master's of Social Work Degree and has held a License in Clinical Social Work in Texas, Oklahoma, Nevada, and California. He was assistant clinical director for a residential substance abuse treatment program in Reno, Nevada serving women with children. Mr. Lindsey has more than 11 years experience in clinical treatment, with a substantial background in substance abuse treatment.

Beverly Carroll

Adolescent Program Director

Ms. Carroll started with Nexus as a volunteer in daycare in 1992. She has served as an adolescent tech and as a counselor in the Adult Women Residential Program and in the Adult Women Outpatient Program. She was also instrumental in starting the Aftercare/Alumni Program. Ms. Carroll is a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor with a Bachelor's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.

Sam Hilliard

Outpatient Services Director

Mr. Hilliard joined Nexus in 2006 after six years with Gateway Foundation-Help is Possible where he was the Assistant Director. He has a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Nebraska and a Bachelor's of Science degree from Texas A&M University at Commerce. He is a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor with 12 years of experience working with adolescents, adult women and adult men in residential and outpatient settings. His background includes extensive work the field of recovery with a focus on Therapeutic Communities and criminal justice populations.

Natalie Ridley Baerwaldt

Children's Services Director

Ms. Baerwaldt has been a part of the Nexus team since 2006. In 2008 she became the Director of Children's Services and brings with her more than five years of professional experience in child development. Ms. Baerwaldt has a Master's Degree in Counseling, Development, and Higher Education with a specialization in Early Childhood. She received her training at the University of North Texas where she also instructs human development courses as an adjunct professor.

Amy Gill

Director of Development and Public Relations

The newest member of the team, Ms. Gill joined Nexus in February 2011. No stranger to Dallas area non-profits, she has worked for the Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance and Mental Health America of Greater Dallas in addition to having served as a parole officer for mentally ill offenders with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Ms. Gill holds a bachelor's degree in social work from the University of Texas at Austin and from Florida State University, master's degrees in criminology and public administration.

Connie McCarty

Admissions Director

Ms. McCarty joined Nexus in 1999 as the adult women's program director and in 2009 became the admissions director. Prior to joining Nexus, she had more than 10 years experience in chemical dependency treatment with Dallas Metrocare Services (formerly known as Dallas County Mental Health/Mental Retardation) and with the Community Supervision & Corrections Department. Ms. McCarty has a Master of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of North Texas. She is also a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor.

Don M. Farmer

Facilities Manager

Mr. Farmer joined the Nexus team in 2002, bringing with him more than 25 years of facility and operations management experience. During his career he has managed many multi-million dollar construction projects in and around the Dallas area. Prior to joining Nexus he was with the Metromedia Restaurant Group, owners of Bennigan's, Steak and Ale, Bonanza and Ponderosa restaurant chains, where he held the position of Home Office Facilities Manager.
